Monograph (Fulbright Action Project)

 

Background: Game-Based Teaching Model (GBTM) is a teaching method that uses traditional games as demonstration tools. GBTM implements inquiry as a strategy.

 

Methods: A mixed-method approach was used to study the effectiveness of GBTM in classrooms. The sample included high-school students and teachers. A survey was used for quantitative data. Semi-structured interviews and online questionnaires were used for qualitative data.

Results: GBTM i) helped students engage in classroom activities, ii) helped improve academic performance, and iii) helped improve cultural awareness.

 

Conclusion: The GBTM connects classroom teaching to real-life experiences. GBTM helped students create interest in learning and in developing skills of logical reasoning and problem-solving. GBTM also helped nurture inquiry-based scientific temperament in learners.

 

Future plans i) to implement GBTM in Indian classrooms, ii) to share it with the larger community of teachers in India, and iii) to promote the use of traditional games as pedagogical tools in classrooms.
